Your
forgiveness is the biggest strength of your life. If you have knowingly and
unknowingly committed any mistake in your life, then forgive yourself wholly;
don’t keep anything ill thoughts against yourself and don’t regret for
anything. Bygone is bygone. The past is always past. You couldn’t turn the
wheel of your past once again. Forget about it and move ahead in your life.
The same thing is applied to others.
If anyone, whether your own beloved ones or any other person ever hurts you for
whatever reasons, forgive them and forget what has happened. But don’t keep the
burning flames in your mind, heart and soul forever. Otherwise, you will burn
yourself in those burning flames forever.
“The weak can
never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the
strong.”
“Thus, a peaceful man does not carry
any ill towards other creatures, he loves others selflessly, is merciful and
compassionate, and he is egoless, forgiveness full to offenders and is
equanimous to joys and sorrows.”
---Bhagwad Gita
The meaning of the verse: The person
who is always remained peaceful; he doesn’t carry any ill thoughts or
intentions to any creature; he gives his love to everyone unconditionally; he
is merciful and compassionate; and he is humble; even he forgives to the
offenders; and he is always in the state of balance even in his happiness and
sorrows.
The above verse from the Bhagwad Gita
urges you to follow:
• Always keep yourself peaceful.
• Never carry anything bad feelings
and ill thoughts to anyone or any creature.
• Act with selfless mindset.
• Love everyone or every creature.
• Be kind and compassionate.
• Wear out your ego.
• Learn to forgive and forget.
• Attain your calm and balance state.
• Accept your happiness and sorrow as
the same state.
Anecdote:
In the great epic Ramayana, Lord Rama
has forgiven his second mother Kaikeyi (Lord Rama was the son of Kosala) even
though she has made a conspiracy to send Lord Rama to exile for fourteen years,
and in the place of Lord Rama she would want to make her own son, Bharata the
king of Ayodhya.
Kaikeyi realized her grave mistake
when her husband,
the king
Dasaratha died due to the separation of his beloved son, Lord Rama and her own
son Bharata refused to accept the throne of Ayodhya.
Then, Kaikeyi went to bring back Lord
Rama to Ayodhya and asked for forgiveness, “Dear
son, I have
committed a grave mistake; I have committed a great sin; I am a sinner. I have
made injustice to you. I have lost my mind that I have dared to send you into
exile. Please, dear son, forgive me and come back to Ayodhya and accept your
own rightful throne, the kingdom of Ayodhya.”
Kaikeyi
sobbed and fell down at the feet of Lord Rama.
Lord Rama held his mother, Kaikeyi
and hugged her lovingly, and wiped her flowing tears.
Lord Rama said, “Dear mother, you
didn’t do any mistake; you didn’t commit any sin. You are not a sinner either.
You didn’t make any injustice to me. You didn’t send me to any exile. But, you
have been given a great blessing to me.”
Kaikeyi
looked at Lord Rama with puzzled eyes.
“Dear mother, look around, if you
wouldn’t ask a boon from our late father the great king, Dasaratha, to send me
here, how could I meet these great saints and enlightened hermits in this
jungle. I have got a great opportunity to learn great wisdom and knowledge from
them which are very rare in this entire world.
Lord Rama continued, “Dear mother,
you have blessed me in disguise. For that reason I shall always remain indebted
to you.”
Lord Rama had not only forgiven his
mother, Kaikeyi, but also he had accepted his exile for fourteen years without
any regret or anguish.
