Diabetes Mellitus

                                               What is Diabetes Mellitus?

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease which occurs as a result of the disturbances occurring in the metabolism of the nutrient carbohydrate taken with the food, due to inadequate production or utilization of insulin produced by alpha cells of the islets of Langerhans of pancreas. It generally occurs in people of 50 to 60 years of age, but it can be occurred with any age.


                                                              Causes


* Excessive intake of food, especially carbohydrates as potatoes, rice and sweets etc.

* Lack of physical labor.

* Obesity.

* Heredity.

* Virus infections.

* Anxieties existing since a long time.

* Stress.

* Smoking.

* Mental tension.

* Malnutrition.

* Undernutrition.

* Following some injury or accident.

* Drug induced diabetes mellitus as caused by Adrenocorticotrophic hormone.

* Pregnancy.


                                                        
                                                              Types


Type-1

Juvenile onset diabetes: it is insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. It develops abruptly before the age of 25 years, mostly at the age of 5 years and early adolescence in which insulin is required to be injected to survive, i.e., this type of diabetes is dependent on insulin.

Type-2

Maturity onset diabetes: it is non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. This type of diabetes mellitus develops after the age of 40 years in which insulin is not required to survive.

                                                                 Other types


 Obese non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus

 Non-obese non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus

 Malnutrition related diabetes mellitus: it occurs in malnutrition before the age of 30 years.

Secondary diabetes mellitus: it develops as secondary to some diseases.

Gestational diabetes mellitus: it develops during pregnancy.


                                                                  Symptoms

 
* Excessive thirst.

* Dehydration.

* Increase urine.

* Tiredness and fatigue.

* Headache.

* Experiencing a rapid heartbeat.

* Trembling of hands and legs.

* Feel irritable.

* Hungry.

* Gum infection.

* Sudden drowsy.

* Loss consciousness and coma.

* Hearing and vision problem.

* Frequent infection or cuts and bruises that take a long time to heal.


                                                                    Effect

 
* Blindness.

* Kidney disease.

* Blood vessel damage.

* Nerve damage.

* High blood pressure.

* Stroke.

* Limb amputation.


                                                            Remedies



* Take lemon juice regularly.

* Eat 2-4 pieces of apple everyday.

* Mix 310 grm of carrot and 185 grm of apple juice and take everyday.

* Take the juice of 8 grm of raw turmeric and ½ teaspoon of honey and mixed together and drink it everyday.

* Take amla juice with honey.
 
* Take mango juice and blackberry.

* Take one or two tomato in your diet.

* Eat 2/3 pieces of garlic everyday.

* Take one glass of bitter gourd juice everyday.

* Take mint juice of 8 ml everyday.

* Soak 2 teaspoon of fenugreek in water, keep it overnight and take it in the morning in empty stomach.

* Soak 10-15 tender leaves of mango in water, keep it overnight and take in the morning.

* Take cinnamon powder with water and take for one month.

* Eat raw onion everyday.
 
* Take salad of onion, garlic, cucumber, tomato and lemon juice everyday.

* Soak a few seeds of methi, keep overnight and take it in the morning.

* Take black tea without sugar.

* Take green tea. It acts as anti-oxidant.

* Take one teaspoon of alfalfa seeds and sprinkle them on every meal you eat.

* Chew fresh curry leaves every morning.

* Neem is good. Chew it early in the morning.

* Bay leaf, bal patra and tulsi are very effective for diabetes.
 
* Drink a lot of water at least 2.5 litres everyday.

* Maintain healthy diet.

* Do yoga and exercise regularly.


                                                              Avoid

Sugar, sugarcane, ghee, butter, fish, curd, potato, grapes, banana etc.
